Deux événements voile à Montréal cette semaine!

Nous n'avons pas souvent la chance à Montréal de voir des présentations de coureurs océaniques. Cette semaine, deux événements sont prévus.

Bleu Ocean, Image L'Escale nautique

Jeudi le 24 avril au Yacht Club de Beaconsfield, Alain Molimard présentera le projet Bleu Voile Océanique.  Bleu a participé à la Transat Québec Saint-Malo.

O Canada by Ingrid Johansson

Vendredi le 25 avril au Royal Saint-Lawrence Yacht Club de Dorval, les frères olympiens Kai et Tyler Bjorn présenteront le projet O Canada.  O Canada a participé à la Transpac.

Un documentaire de 53 minutes a été tourné, et ce documentaire sera présenté par l'un des membres de l'équipage.  Toute l'info est sur Facebook.

An evening sail. What to do when the kids don't want to follow?

Tonight, we were invited on a sail.  It was supposed to be a nice, relaxed sail on a weekday evening at a yacht club 5 minutes away from home.  It's the very end of August, so the sun sets early.  It was also the first day of school for our oldest boy, and the third day in the new class of the daycare for our youngest.

I was worried as soon as we were invited.  It will take skilled convincing to get our oldest son, now 7 onto the boat.  We started with the big guns right away: Pogo sticks and fries.  We usually eat healthy food, so junk food is really an exception.  It worked to get them on the boat, and we got at least 5 minutes of sailing before the complaining started.  We were on Sharks, which are 24 foot long narrow keelboats.  The ones for member use at the Royal Saint-Lawrence Yacht Club don't have engines.

I have to admit I was also annoyed.  The wind was just enough to overcome the current and there were lots of flies, and some of them bit.  Not exciting conditions.  The air was hot and muggy.  We had the impression the boat was not moving for the first half of the sail.  Everybody tried helming, the kids did a wilfully bad job, wanting to turn back to the club.  Our eldest was saying he never wanted to go on a sailboat again.  When we finally did turn back, we had wind in our faces blowing the flies away, and I could sense the kids were having fun running around this sailboat with no lifelines.  The kids had their life-jackets on and the lake water around us is at 26 degrees Celsius.  With the current helping us progress, the way back felt much too short and the kids did not complain at all.  The sunset in the distance was beautiful.

We quickly stored the sails and the lines (though never fast enough) and went back home.  It was just 8 when we arrived home, if the kids could get in their PJ fast, it would still be reasonable for a week night.  However, they did not have the opportunity to wind down, it's 10 PM  and our youngest is still getting up and complaining about throat ache, leg pains, asking for more water or what ever.

What could have been a nice evening sail was an ordeal.

Quel Club de voile rejoindre à Montréal

Nous sommes propriétaires d'un voilier Lightning.  Un excellent bateau pour faire de la promenade en famille ou de la course.  Le nôtre n'a pas de moteur.  Nous faisons de la voile pure.  Nous nous ancrons souvent avec une petite ancre qui nous permet de sauter à l'eau le midi. Nous laissons notre bateau hors de l'eau à la fin des sorties.

Le plus important lorsqu'on fait de la course en voile, c'est de se retrouver avec des voiliers du même type.  Les Shark sont à Beaconsfield et Pointe-Claire.  Les Laser 28 sont au Royal St-Lawrence Yacht Club de Dorval.  

Il y a 6 Lightnings au Royal et 3 à Beaconsfield.  Les administrateurs du Royal nous ont invité à leur club afin de participer aux courses du jeudi soir.  Nous avons testé aujourd'hui la navigation à partir de ce club.  Les conditions étaient chaudes et humides, avec un vent de près de 7 noeuds.

Nous avons réussi à vaincre le courant et nous nous sommes ancrés dans la baie de Valois.  Ulysse a sauté à l'eau en premier et a été surpris par le courant.  Il avait du mal à nager assez vite pour le vaincre.

J'ai trouvé qu'il était bien possible de naviguer agréablement à partir du Royal sans moteur, même si nous préférons tous l'eau plus profonde et le courant plus faible de Beaconsfield.

La réponse à la question ?

Le plus important, ce sont les autres personne de qui on espère apprendre.  Dans chaque club, il y en a beaucoup.  A vous de choisir.
